Abyss Nightclub in San Francisco submitted Description
Located in the Murphy Avenue historical district of Sunnyvale, this 1930s movie theatre has been splendidly restored and transformed into an Art Nouveau Event Paradise. Vivid imagination went into recreating every aspect of the original Palace. The exterior is a swirl of earthy tones that brings the building to life. Italian Terrazo graces the sidewalk, a hand-painted golden lion roars beneath the theater marquee and copper and bronze sculptures spruce up the door handles. The lobby is something to behold. Its walls are lined with Aegean gargoyle sconces and pieces of slate, hand picked for their unusual shades of purple and mauve. Inside, the space is visually overwhelming. Its a fluid, multi-level space with deep colored sculptured walls, a soaring ceiling, a beautiful stage, towering Gothic columns and arched mirrors. The setting is absolutely opulent: layers of rich blue and greenish-gold velvet curtains spotlighted by dramatic stage, recessed, and intelligent lighting highlight the dramatic nature of the space.
