Article Written By: Amanda Huynh
“Let me think about it…” – the Winter Music Conference
March 24-31st, 2008
www.wintermusicconference.com
There is no better combination than the sand between your toes, the sun on your back and heavy bass echoing through your ears. No where can you find a more comprehensive gathering, than at the Winter Music Conference. Held in Miami Beach, WMC celebrates its 23rd year this march with an amazing up of international talent. People from over 62 countries will be in attendance, and there’s no doubt you’re going to bump into the biggest names in dance music, radio programming and various media outlets.
It is truly the industry event of 2008, and is booking up quickly. Here’s a list of this year’s most highly anticipated events, taking place throughout the week.
2008 DJ Battle hosted by Felix Sama & Shortee
Last year, over $40,000 in prizes were given out. This year another star studded judging panel gets ready to crown the winner.
South Beach Sessions
Running all week long, this new program is mean to address the efforts of the music industry in dealing with current global issues. It will include evening sessions, cocktail receptions and the gathering of industry insiders as well as leading community organizations.
International Dance Music Awards
Honoring the best in dance music, this is like the Grammy’s for electronic music. Awards for 45 categories will be handed out, playing homage to the many talented artists and DJs in the industry.
Over 1700 DJs will perform over the week, joined by over 700 journalists who will be covering the event for publications around the world. Past guests have included the links of Carl Cox, Lucas Prata, and Rihanna- who knows who will pop up on the beach this year.
Hundreds of hotel rooms have already been booked, and area hotels are clamoring to attract guests with special rates. Partnering up with the Miami Beach Resort and Spa, registered delegates will enjoy discounted rates starting at just $219 per night based on double occupancy, for a minimum stay of five nights.
If you want to get into the conference free, consider becoming a staff member or a volunteer. You must be in the Southern Florida area prior to the week in order to be considered. For more information go to the website, but don’t hesitate to ask. Volunteers are always needed for major events, so if getting media accreditation won’t work for you, a helping hand might.
